Intermediate II Chinese
This class is designed for students with a minimum of 3 years of Chinese instruction. The emphasis of this class is to enhance reading and writing skills while building students’ interest in Chinese language and culture. Students will engage in readings about history, literature, social values, and Chinese folk stories. Cultural appreciation through films, cooking classes, and current events discussions are an integral part of the course, encouraging students to learn the language in the context of its history and culture. Short essay composition and oral presentations serve to further develop confidence and fluency.
The goal of the course is for students to develop exemplary language skills and proficiency through practical training. At the end of the class, students will have the option of taking the Standards-based Measurement of Proficiency Test (STAMP) to have their language skills formally assessed.
Fall Semester: September 27, 2008- December 6, 2008 (10 weeks)
Spring Semester: January 17, 2009- April 4, 2009 (10 weeks)
Saturdays, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
No class on November 29, January 24, March 14
